Music/Movie review By Vijay Fans:
Nayanthara has completed work on Kuselan and she has joined the shoot of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Villu in Pollachi, where they shot some scenes for the film.
Later the unit has gone back to Palani which is the main location for the film. Prabhu Deva, the director is a fast worker, and the movie which has camera by Ravi Varman, is canning shots at a hectic pace.
Ravi is happy that there is a lot of vibrancy in the way Prabhu visualizes his shots. Vijay and Nayanthara make a lovely pair and after the 10-day shoot in Palani the unit will be flying off to an exotic location abroad.

Vijay is all praise for Prabhu Deva, for his speed and professionalism. On the other hand, Prabhu says Vijay is simply electrifying and is so involved with the proceedings. Mutual admiration club?
Produced by K.Karunamoorthy and C.Arunpandian (‘Aegan’ team), directed by Prabhu Dheva (his second with Vijay after Pokkiri) and starring Vijay, Nayanthara, Prakash Raj (villain?) Vadivelu, Kushboo( item number), Napolean and others. The story appears to be a comedy-cum-action romance! Vijay is sent abroad on a puzzling assignment to eliminate some people, where he meets his love interest (is that why we have the name Villu for him—he is merely an
instrument in his boss’s hands?) Is supposed to have been filmed in Italy and India. Music has been provided by the trendy composer Devi Sri Prasad (Santosh Subramaniam) who has tuned a hefty 8 songs! Are Vijay fans in for a treat?
Hey Rama Rama…Vocals: Amalraj, Kovai SaralaLyrics: Kabilan.
A typical Vijay song, in terms of music, beats and sentiments! Is it the title song? With lines like ‘sattham inri udhavi seynja vazhum podhe sorgam varum–’ you can imagine the rest. Some fine rhythm arrangement we have here and a bit of violin. A miniscule effort from Sarala. Vijay fans are the target here, but haven’t they heard such songs earlier?!
Nee Kobappattaal…Vocals: SagarLyrics: P.Vijay.
A song that moves somewhat like a nursery rhyme, with simple lyrics and easy rhythm. The song of a love-stricken heart where the hero goes, ‘nee ennai marandhal mattum uyirai viduven’ and everytime he says that, the instruments-mandolin, later the sitar and the sax essay cute notes along. Appears set on Natabairavi scale. Small but nice inputs from live rhythms and the guitar.
Daddy Mummy…Vocals: Mamta Mohandas, Naveen Madhav.Lyrics: Viveka
A surprise from the young actress Mamta! Strong but nasal voice. Quite a sexy song with somewhat distasteful lyrics. The creative rhythms hijack the whole song and make it foot-tapping. The instrumental piece that goes ‘ma ma ma ga ri ga ma pa — ga ma ri sa’ keeps up the pace. Is it clarinet that we hear? Hard to tell!
Are You Crazy…Vocals: Divya. Lyrics: Prabhu Deva, Akila, Ravi.
Just a quarter of a song , with the lady singer heaping abuse on a man and rounding off with ‘you, loser!’. Three people to pen this?
Jalsa Jalsa…Vocals: Baba Seghal, Rita. Lyrics: Rohini.
A song expressly designed for Vijay, as the singer himself remarks – ‘rock the floor ilaya thalapathy!’ Full of infectious rhythms—a groovy dance number rendered very neatly by Baba Seghal. A kind of Spanish meets native meets calypso kind of beats. Starts off with some Spanish words and a nice glide on the ‘paa’ swara. Adequate support from guitar, keys, drums and rhythm pads, of course. Look out for some breathless dancing from Vijay!!
Vaada Mapilley…Vocals: Tipu, Rita , VadiveluLyrics: Kabilan
Ha, ha , a delightful native ditty using the Sankarabaranam scale where the song starts off like a singalese ‘baila’ number and, moves on! At last we get to hear some good guitar, nagaswaram and thavil beats in the interludes. Vadivelu’s ‘bale’ ‘bale’ adds zing to the song. Could be a hit in spite of the cheap lyrics. Tipu’s high pitched vocals balance Rita’s seductive ones.
Dheemthanakka…Vocals: Devi Sri Prasad, Divya. Lyrics: Snehan
Oh, no, another relentlessly paced dance number, a duet of course! All rhythm pads, drums, guitar, keys, sax, and a bit of flute. But everything drowned out by beats. Some good poetic stuff from Snehan, but still a bit crude. We have the composer indulging his vocal chords here.
Jalsa Jalsa… (The DSP Mix)Vocals: Baba Seghal, Devi Sri Prasad, Rita
You guessed right, this is the ‘remix cum cat-on-a-hot-tin-roof’ avatar of the earlier. Plenty of instruments, synthesized beats and a teeny weeny bit of tabla (surprise). Meant for dance floors.
Verdict:
As we can all see, this stylish composer has been carried away by the image of Vijay as a superb dancer! The record label mentions many live instruments but we barely get to hear them. None of the songs seem to contribute to the actual movement of the story. If the movie is a thriller, won’t the songs be a drag on its pace?

Sarathy’s main failing is his inferiority complex about his dark looks and physical appearance. All the more compounded, when after many rejections, he finally finds a girl, fair and pretty, and willing to marry him. Suspicion takes its toll on his mind as sees every man talking to his wife as a potential threat to their marriage. Spying on his wife (well played by Kartika), and making regular complaints to the police, Sarathy becomes an object of ridicule. Driving himself to a nervous breakdown, he soon finds his near ones alienated from him. The closing scene has a touch of humour.
A remake of the Malayalam film 'Vadukku Nokki Yanthram', it has a novel story-line, and a finely crafted screenplay, with humour and satire weaved in. The director has stuck faithfully to the original version, the song-dance numbers being the distracting addition here. Saranya’s is a finely tuned performance as the mother, frustrated at her son’s idiosyncrasies.
Mouthing gibberish that sounds like high flown philosophy, Bhasker is in his element.
It was a role that Sreenivasan had crafted for himself to go with his image, mannerisms and his trademark acting style. And it’s to Karunas’ credit that he could come close to re-enacting it with almost the same feel and sensitivity. It’s a film truly different from the routine ones we get to see.

Action King Arjun a young man who can’t see injustice happening around him makes more problems in his town that gets in arguments and fights often. Actor Arjun had a character of adopting violent ways to run the baddies. Director Perarasu however manages to keep secret
that Arjun is doing a double role in the movie, even in trailers and promo this was kept without any clues. During the interval time the second Arjun will appear which makes the viewers surprised. The interesting point of the movie is that two reversal characters of Arjuns.
Naturally Director Perarasu with usual punch lines and other masalas looks like a typical Perarasu movie “Tiruvannamalai”. The music choreographed by Srikanth Deva is below average. Arjun known as an action hero performed well in action sequences and he looks energetic in the entire movie. Saikumar plays a normal baddie nothing different. Thanya Vakeel named as heroine but no scope in the movie. Comedian Karunas some of comedy scenes not even make anyone laugh.
On the whole Tiruvannamalai movie is Action Jodhi only Director Perarasu and Action King Arjun fans will love to watch this movie none of them will try. The movie is a commercial and it will attract C and B class audiences anyway. The movie is only average with its commercial mixes.

Abhiyum Naanum Review
Cast: Trisha, Aishwarya, Prakash Raj Director: Radhamohan
"Abhiyum Naanum" can easily be compared to a mellowed champagne that does not intoxicate like run-of-the-mill crass, cinematic essays loaded with violence and sleaze like hard liquor does, but leaves one with a nice, contented warmth within.
Often known for his offbeat, commendable performances, actor Prakash Raj has teamed up with Radha Mohan once again after the critically acclaimed "Mozhi". "Abhiyum Naanum" tells the story of a tender relationship between a doting father and his lovable, petite daughter.
In the movie, Raghuraman (Prakash Raj) recounts his affection for his daughter Abhi (Trisha) from the time she was a little girl and how she grows up into a beautiful, lovable stranger.
The subtle differences of a child's growth is etched through a narrative partly featuring the younger version of Raghuraman, played by Prithviraj in a neat cameo. And it is interspersed with the presence of her mother Anu, essayed perfectly by Aishwarya.
Instead of pontificating about dos and the don'ts for families, the subject's humorous treatment enchants the audience.
Director Radha Mohan has shown with aplomb that what could have been shown in a 250-episode endlessly dragging mega serial can be depicted in a taut script.
The surprise package is Trisha. Otherwise known as a glam doll, her sensitive, excellent portrayal of Abhi shows what she is actually capable of.
Ganesh Venkatraman as the Sikh youth besotted with Abhi also does a neat job.
Finally, Prakash Raj proves yet again that he has oodles of talent and can blossom under an understanding director.
Vidyasagar's music and Preetha's cinematography add lustre to the film.
